We have an opening for a full-time Assistant Curator of Public Programs who will apply knowledge and experience of the visual arts, visual and critical theory, popular culture, art history and an awareness of other creative practices and culture to assist and produce all MCA public programs. They will take the lead in producing and executing talks, conferences, participatory artist projects, large-scale programs, and related learning activities. They will focus on primarily adult audiences of both specialist and non-specialist interests and knowledge to create more audience-engaged practices and opportunities, working in collaboration with other MCA departments to identify and develop deeper opportunities for all audiences.
A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in fine art, art history, cultural studies, journalism, art education, or related humanities field. An MA in fine art cultural studies, visual cultures, or art history is preferred.Additional qualifications include:
- A minimum of three years of experience in a cultural organization, museum, education, or curatorial position, or equivalent experience.
- Extensive knowledge of public programming and practice inside museums, and preferably broad knowledge of culture, art, music, dance, performance, museums, and public dialogue.
- Must possess excellent organizational, event, and project management skills to set goals, meet deadlines, and simultaneously advance multiple projects as well as previous experience managing event logistics.
- Demonstrated writing, editing, and verbal skills as well demonstrated comfort with digital technologies and equipment with fluency in Microsoft.
- Excellent customer service and hospitality skills, exceptional independent judgment, and diplomatic skills.
This is a full-time position with a schedule of Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm, with nights and weekends as required by schedule of public programs. General mobility throughout all museum properties is required.Must be able to see works of visual art. Must be able to operate general office equipment and telephones. Some light lifting of hospitality and office supplies.
