Director, Tate Liverpool

Tate’s internationally renowned family of four galleries welcomes over eight million visitors annually. Housed in the city’s iconic Albert Dock, Tate Liverpool has a distinctive identity within the Tate organisation. Tate Liverpool is the most visited gallery of modern and contemporary art outside London and plays an integral role in the city of Liverpool and the cultural ecology of the North West.

Tate is now seeking a Director who can ensure that Tate Liverpool continues to be both artistically adventurous and culturally inclusive. Reporting to Tate’s Director, Maria Balshaw, and working closely with the Managing Director, Kerstin Mogull, the team at Tate Liverpool and colleagues across the organisation, the Director of Tate Liverpool will be responsible for all aspects of the Gallery – vision, strategic planning, artistic and learning programmes, communications, partnerships, revenue generation, budgeting and operational delivery.

As a member of Tate’s Executive leadership team the Director of Tate Liverpool will contribute to the delivery and shaping of Tate’s overall strategy and be a spokesperson for art and artists in wider society and for Tate in the North West, nationally and internationally.

In order to succeed in this role, you will be a creative, entrepreneurial and visionary leader with the ability to create a high performing, inclusive and supportive working environment. You will be a recognised authority on an aspect of art, curatorial practice or cultural learning with a strong track record in engaging broad audiences with art. You must be an excellent communicator and collaborator with the ability to represent Tate Liverpool and forge partnerships with a range of stakeholders locally, nationally, internationally and within Tate.
