Description:
Coordinates joint programming and exhibitions between Blaffer Art Museum, Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts, and the School of Art.
- Assists the Director with the organization of exhibitions and accompanying publication for presentations at the Museum and circulation to other venues.
- Coordinates with artists commissioned to create new works for exhibitions by the Museum to ensure exhibitions are on time and meet budget requirements.
- Coordinates and oversees the installation of exhibitions borrowed from other Institutions.
- Serves as the curatorial contact person for exhibition organized by the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts and the School of Art.
- Works with Curator of Education to create public programs in conjunction with Museum exhibitions.
- May assist Development Director to identify possible funding sources for exhibitions.
- Supervises and trains curatorial interns on research , correspondence and publications for the department.
- Performs other job related duties

Qualifications:
Bachelors and 1 year experience
Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of one(1) year of directly job-related experience.

The Blaffer Art Museum at the University of Houston seeks a curatorial fellow for spring 2018. The appointment is for two years, renewable to three, 40 hours a week. Duties include assisting the Director with all aspects of exhibition and publication organization; managing schedules and budgets; liaising with artists, lenders, and partner institutions; coordinating the installation of exhibitions; serving as the curatorial contact person for exhibition organized by the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts and the School of Art; and working with Curator of Education to organize public programs and community partnerships. Additionally, the fellow may perform other job-related tasks, including assisting with museum fundraising and publicity efforts and supervising curatorial interns. Requirements: MA in art history or related field and an in-depth knowledge of current art and theory. Foreign languages a plus. The Blaffer is a noncollecting contemporary art museum and a unit of the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts at UH with an international focus and experimental ethos.
