Curatorial/Museum Assistant

Position Summary
The Center for Creative Photography (CCP) is seeking a dynamic and well qualified Curatorial/Museum Assistant in their Curatorial Department. The Curatorial/Museum Assistant will support various functions for the Center for Creative Photography, for example: providing assistance to the Curatorial Department in all areas, such as acquisitions, exhibitions, outreach and public programming, and publications, with a particular emphasis on supporting exhibitions for the CCP’s exhibition program, including traveling exhibitions, incoming loans, and exhibitions by guest curators.

As the Curatorial/Museum Assistant for the Curatorial Department at the Center for Creative Photography, you will be part of a diverse team of professionals working together to support the department’s mission of preservation, teaching, learning, scholarship, and the appreciation of archival material and works of art by North America’s greatest photographers. The ideal candidate for this position will possess the ability to freely communicate with members of multiple departments to be sure that department activities move smoothly, are transparent, and integrate into others’ workflow. Additional skills that are necessary are being detailed oriented, accurate, work independently, work successfully with demanding deadlines, and operate with professionalism. We are looking for someone who will be successful in a support role and thrive in a collaborative environment, with many simultaneous projects.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Support curatorial team (Chief curator, Head of Academic and Public Programs, Norton Family Assistant Curator) in their work on exhibitions, both in-house and traveling, in all aspects including preparing checklists, doing research, working with objects, drafting label content, helping with all aspects of installation including the production of formatted labels, helping with the production of collateral and related exhibition publications, giving tours of in-house exhibitions, and supporting traveling exhibition tours.
• Interface with the External Relations department providing information about exhibitions, programs, and curatorial department activities, including producing and reviewing copy, editing and reviewing ads, collateral, web and social media content, etc.
• Support activities that provide access to the collection in all its forms, including but not limited to print viewings, Center public events, the loan process, and digital initiatives, which includes working closely with curators, registration, external relations, and conservation.
• Support the acquisitions process, interfacing with curators, registration, and conservation, as well as external stakeholders (primarily donors and artists) by doing research, tracking communications, conveying information between parties, and drafting acquisition justifications, to facilitate the Center’s extremely active acquisitions program.
• Support exhibition production working closely with registration and preparation teams, interfacing with departments throughout the Center.
• Track expenditures for curatorial funds.
• Additional duties may be assigned.
