Stipend: $3500
Fall 2018 Internship Dates: September 10–December 14, 2018

The Museum’s Internship Program provides college undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates with a wide range of experiences designed to provide insight into the daily workings of a professional museum environment. In addition to working on meaningful, engaging projects with Museum staff, interns engage in a series of meetings, workshops, offsite visits to arts and cultural institutions, and public programs. Internship descriptions by department are below, and the application form can be found at the bottom of this page.

Due to the high volume of applications, only candidates who have been selected for interviews will be contacted directly regarding their application status.

Only individuals authorized to work for the Museum in the United States will be accepted into the internship program. The Museum will consider expressions of interest in providing volunteer services to the Museum from non-work authorized individuals.

Curatorial Internship

Curatorial interns will work under the direction of the Curatorial Assistant. Interns will be involved in a range of curatorial projects including research and organization for upcoming exhibitions, maintaining archives and visual materials, reviewing artist submissions and updating artist files and exhibition listings. The curatorial intern will also assist with the organization, archiving and transfer of department files, and support key tasks related to inHarlem initiatives. Interns will work directly with curators, assistants and artists on exhibition checklists, graphics, catalogue production and documentation.

The Curatorial Internship is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who major/minor in Art History, Visual Culture or a related field. Applicants should have an interest in curating, excellent writing and research skills, and knowledge of the contemporary art world. Applicants must be able to handle multiple projects at once.
