We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Curator to lead and manage two key commissions as part of TP2019+. These will be installed by Monday 23 September 2019, to be in place for Turner Prize 2019 press and preview. The works will be of an exemplary standard, appropriate to the context of Turner Prize 2019.
-
Turner Contemporary, Kent Libraries and Margate Festival are inviting four artists, or artists’ collectives, to develop a proposal for a new digital artwork made collaboratively with people from across Kent, which will be installed on or around the outside of Turner Contemporary’s building during Turner Prize 2019 and Margate Festival as part of TP2019+. This new work will be inspired by JMW Turner’s passion for technological innovation. The artist will incorporate ideas or content generated by members of the public at 12 Kent Libraries and 4 Shopping Centres, connecting with diverse audiences and inspiring them to visit Margate during Turner Prize 2019. The artist may already work digitally, or be interested in collaborating with a digital partner to create this work.
-
A second commission will be developed to enable an artist to create an imaginative ‘welcome structure’ in or around Margate Station. This will be staffed by our volunteers, and will create a spectacular and creative welcome point, enable visitors to collect information, understand their route, and ensure they are orientated when they reach Margate. This commission will be selected in partnership with Margate Festival. It may be linked to the commission above, or it may be a separate opportunity. (Please note that we are currently in discussion with the train operator, and this commission is still to be confirmed).
