The Association of Art Museum Curators Foundation announced the recipients of its 2020 International Fellowships

The Association of Art Museum Curators Foundation announced the recipients of its 2020 International Fellowships. Now in its fifth iteration, the annual fellowship pairs two sets of curators -one from USA and the other from abroad- in a year-long partnership dedicated to professional advancement, exchange, and development. All four curators represent geographical locations not previously served in the program’s past fellows. In addition, this year includes the first fellowship pairing to focus on Native American Art.

The panel of american art experts reviewed applications and selected the 2020 fellow pairings:

· Chih-l Lai (Assistant Curator, National Palace Museum, Taibao City, Taiwan) and John Lukavic (Andrew W. Mellon Curator of Native Arts, Denver Art Museum, Denver, Colorado, USA), who together will be working on expanding Native American art conversations to Taiwan through access and research.

·Julia Tatiana Bailey (Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, National Gallery Prague, Prague, Czech Republic) and Jonathan Frederick Walz (Director of Curatorial Affairs & Curator of American Art, The Columbus Museum, Columbus, Georgia, USA,) together will be seeking to forward cross-border exhibitions and research exchanges through relationship building.

“Fostering collaboration across borders is important to our mission”, noted Judith Pineiro, Executive Director, AAMC Foundation. “This program, now in its fifth year has advanced an international professional network and we are confident this class of awardees will continue the program’s success”.

Launched in 2016, the International Curatorial Fellowship Program is made possible through major support from the Terra Foundation for American Art. Fellows must be working or have previously worked on exhibitions and/or curatorial projects that explore historical art of the United States. The program includes travel funding for awardees, a participant stipend for US Liaisons, networking, and other benefits. Two pairings are awarded each year, with the next application opportunity opening in fall 2020.
