Alexandra Terry Named Curator of Contemporary Art at New Mexico Museum of Art
A Strong Background in Contemporary Art
In a nationwide search, the New Mexico Museum of Art (NMMOA) proudly welcomes Alexandra Terry as its new Curator of Contemporary Art. This appointment marks a significant enhancement to the museum’s curatorial team, coinciding with the imminent unveiling of the New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary.
A Diverse International Experience
Alexandra Terry brings an impressive background in contemporary art to her new role. Holding a Master of Fine Arts in Curating from Goldsmiths in London and a Bachelor of Arts in Photography from the University of Colorado Boulder, she served as Chief Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara. Her tenure in London included work with the MOP Foundation, a nonprofit Iranian arts organization, and involvement with the P.A.S.T Project, a contemporary art archives initiative. Terry’s international experience, coupled with her commitment to local contexts, aligns seamlessly with the NMMOA’s vision.
Reflecting on the Appointment
Expressing her enthusiasm for the role, Terry stated, “I am thrilled to be joining the New Mexico Museum of Art at this pivotal moment of its expansion and look forward to contributing to its legacy. In working closely with the institution, I aim to build a dynamic contemporary program addressing crucial conversations happening in the present day, placing artists and the community together in meaningful dialogue.”

Christian Waguespack, Head of Curatorial Affairs, commended Terry’s outstanding fourteen-year track record in the contemporary art world. Her extensive experience and education uniquely qualify her as the Curator of Contemporary Art at the New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary.
