Amanda de la Garza announced the New Artistic Deputy Director of the Reina Sofia Museum
The selection process began on November 24th, following the announcement on the Museum’s website for the position of Artistic Deputy Director of the National Museum and Art Center Reina Sofia. This procedure ensured transparency and competition in accordance with the principles of merit and capability, as well as suitability criteria.
The announcement specified that “The Artistic Deputy Director of the MNCARS will be responsible for carrying out the exhibition program, public programs, presentations, and growth lines of the Collection, restoration projects, supervision of the registry and the work of the Library and archives, as well as the necessary research apparatus for its development. In this sense, it is a position of trust that will be in close contact with the Direction.”
Furthermore, the creation of an assessment commission was announced, which examined and evaluated the applications and documentation submitted by the 52 candidates who applied. The commission was chaired by the Deputy Manager of the National Museum and Art Center Reina Sofia, Julián González Cid, and included two other members as vocal members: a representative of the Royal Board, Guadalupe Herranz Escudero, secretary of the Royal Board, and a representative of the Deputy Management, Sara Horganero Gómez, Deputy Assistant to Management. After evaluating the applications, the assessment commission issued a report detailing the outcome and a ranking of the applications. Based on the accredited merits and the commission’s report, the director of the National Museum and Art Center Reina Sofia, together with the assessment commission, conducted personal interviews with the shortlisted candidates to assess their suitability for the position and to better understand their merits and capabilities.
Following the conclusion of the process, the director of the National Museum and Art Center Reina Sofia, Manuel Segade (in accordance with article 9.2.ñ of the MNCARS Statute), proposed to the Permanent Commission of the Royal Board yesterday the appointment of Amanda de la Garza (Monclova, Mexico, 1981) as the new Artistic Deputy Director of the Reina Sofia Museum.
