A Rich Curatorial Journey
Rujoiu’s journey in the art world is a testament to her dedication and passion. She was a vital member of the founding team at the NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore from 2013 to 2018, initially serving as Curator for Exhibitions and later as Head of Publications. During her tenure, she co-curated a multitude of solo and group exhibitions, commissions, projects, and public programs, leaving an indelible mark on the institution.
Her influence also extended to the Royal College of Art London, where she led the Outset Visual Cultures Programme from 2012 to 2013. Her role in the curatorial initiative FormContent from 2011 to 2013 in London was instrumental in initiating the nomadic program titled “It’s Moving from I to It”.
A Prolific Portfolio
Rujoiu’s portfolio includes a wide range of curatorial projects. In 2019, she co-curated the third edition of the Art Encounters Biennial in Timișoara. Other notable projects include “Inventory of the Week” (2023) at the National Centre for Dance Bucharest, “Solidarity is a Verb” (2022) at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, and a collaboration with the Singapore Botanical Gardens in 2022. In 2013, she co-curated “Collective Fictions”, a selected project in Nouvelles Vagues, a program by Palais de Tokyo in Paris dedicated to young curators.

Rujoiu’s contributions aren’t limited to curatorial work; she has also made significant strides in the realm of publications and artists’ books. Noteworthy works include “sentAp!”, a special issue dedicated to the late artist Roslisham Ismail aka Ise (2021); “Voyages de Rhodes” by Thao Nguyen Phan (2018); “Place.Labour.Capital.” (2018); “Arachnid Orchestra. Jam Sessions” (2017); “Becoming Palm” by Simryn Gill and Michael Taussig (2018); and “Theatrical Fields: Critical Strategies in Performance, Film, and Video” (2016).
A Rekindled Collaboration
Rujoiu’s association with Bildmuseet at Umeå University dates back to 2013 when she served as an assistant curator for the exhibition titled “Theatrical Fields” at Bildmuseet. This exhibition was later presented at NTU CCA Singapore and resulted in the production of an eponymous reader. Additionally, she has been an invited curator in the Networking North program initiated by Bildmuseet in 2022, 2020, and 2018.
A Scholarly Pursuit
Beyond her curatorial achievements, Anca Rujoiu is currently a PhD candidate at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, where her research delves into institution building, self-organization, and alternative approaches to constructing and documenting histories. She completed her MFA Curating Programme at Goldsmiths College London and was among the curators selected for the 3rd International Curator Course at the Gwangju Biennial in 2011.
