Carlos Quijon, Jr. appointed Chief Curator of the CCP Contemporary Art Museum

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) has appointed art historian, critic and curator Carlos Quijon, Jr. as Chief Curator of the CCP Contemporary Art Museum.

In the role, Quijon will shape how the museum presents and interprets its extensive contemporary art collection. His appointment comes ahead of the planned reopening of the CCP Main Building in the first quarter of 2027, following conservation and rehabilitation work that began in 2021.

Quijon previously served as the inaugural C-MAP Fellow for Southeast and East Asia at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 2024, he curated the Philippine Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale, presenting the work of artist Mark Salvatus.

He has also curated exhibitions in São Paulo, New York, Seoul, Busan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Manila, and participated in museum residencies and fellowships across Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Quijon brings extensive knowledge of Southeast Asian modern and contemporary art, transregional art histories, curatorial practice and scholarship, as well as regional artistic infrastructures and ecosystems.

As Chief Curator, he aims to strengthen the museum’s position in national and regional conversations around contemporary art while supporting Filipino artists and promoting their work to local and international audiences.
