CFC Members Quiz: Julia Hartmann

Call for Curators is glad to present the Members Quiz a series of weekly online events on Instagram Live in which we introduce CFC Members to our digital audiences. Through this new format, we aim to spotlight Members of our community, showcase the diversity of their curatorial interests and specialisms, and facilitate new networks of influences and potential exchanges.

Julia Hartmann in conversation with Maria Cynkier, 23rd May 2022.

Julia Hartmann is an art historian, writer, and independent curator based in Vienna, Austria. She previously worked as Assistant Curator at the Secession and the Belvedere 21 in Vienna and is currently a PhD candidate at the Academy of Fine Art Vienna with a research focus on an all-female exhibition history and “women’s art” from China. Julia is the co-founder of SALOON Wien, an international network for women in the arts, she is Associate Curator at the VIENNA ART WEEK, and independently curates exhibitions that oscillate between feminism, digitization, and social movements. Amongst other exhibition projects, she initiated “Search for…The more you search, the less you find” — a series of exhibitions that examine algorithmization and digitization of our daily lives and how it influences our behaviour. In 2020, Julia curated the online exhibition “Net Works – Pitch for a Social Network Sphere,” which deals with the situation of closed borders, solidarity, and networks in times of crisis.
