Conversation with Patricio Majano
The ALT + SHIFT + COMM series hosts Patricio Majano for a conversation on artistic practices in El Salvador, institutional and independent strategies to support Salvadoran artists locally and internationally, and the cultivation of creative exchanges across Central America.
Patricio Majano is a Salvadoran curator, artist and professor. He is the Curator and Interim Director of Y.ES Contemporary and a professor at the School of Arts of the University of El Salvador. Previously, he collaborated in the Educational Programs of the Museum of Art of El Salvador and the Forma Museum in San Salvador. He earned his BA from the University of El Salvador. His practice focuses in Salvadoran context and environment.
Recent curatorial projects include Borders of Freedom, an exhibition part of the Y.ES Contemporary Art Loan Program, presented at the Cultural Center of Spain in El Salvador, Locust Projects in Miami, and IE University in Madrid; Base 8 at La Única Gallery in El Salvador; and Square Waves Pavilion at The Wrong New Digital Art Biennale 2017-2018.
Y.ES Contemporary creates opportunities for outstanding Salvadoran contemporary artists to advance their artistic practice and engage with artists, curators, collectors, gallerists and the media within and outside El Salvador. A nomadic non-collecting program, Y.ES Contemporary’s focus is to support and increase the visibility of contemporary artists from El Salvador through curatorial art trips, grants and workshops, exhibition, talk, and studio visit programming locally and internationally. Y.ES Contemporary is an initiative of the Robert S. Wennett and Mario Cader-Frech Foundation.
