Emma Enderby Appointed New Director of KW Institute for Contemporary Art

KW Institute for Contemporary Art is thrilled to introduce Emma Enderby as the incoming director of KW, effective May 15, 2024. Emma Enderby, a seasoned curator, writer, and art lecturer specializing in modern and contemporary art, currently holds the esteemed position of Head of Programs and Research/Chief Curator at Haus der Kunst, Munich.

A Unanimous Choice

Following an exhilarating selection process and a unanimous decision, KW is delighted to unveil Emma Enderby as KW’s new director. Commencing her tenure in mid-2024, Emma Enderby is set to infuse KW with her dynamic programmatic vision. Her unwavering commitment to ecological matters, along with her dedication to showcasing voices beyond the conventional art canon and Berlin’s role as an international cultural hub, has been both inspiring and compelling.

Chair of the board, Katharina Grosse, expressed her enthusiasm for Enderby’s appointment. She noted, “We want to thank Krist Gruijthuijsen for creating a program that was as daring as it was rich in perspectives, which has been opening up KW to a diverse audience since 2016. His cooperative efforts resulted in fantastic new networks with international institutions.”

Farewell to Krist Gruijthuijsen

Emma Enderby will succeed Krist Gruijthuijsen, who will be departing from KW after serving as director for eight years. Gruijthuijsen assumed the directorship of KW on July 1, 2016, and in 2021, his contract was extended by the board for an additional three years.

Emma Enderby will officially launch her exhibition and event program in January 2025. Until then, Krist Gruijthuijsen, along with his curatorial team, will continue to oversee the program, ensuring a smooth transition for KW.
