Filipa Ramos to be the Artistic Director of Loop Festival 2025
#Appointment #Artistic Director #Filipa RamosIn November 2004, Loop held the first edition of Loop Festival. It was the first step towards the creation of a community of local and international artists’ video and moving-images partners, experts, and lovers that has been consolidated through the program of exhibitions, conferences, and screenings that every year is presented in Barcelona on occasion of Loop Fair.
More than 20 years later, Loop pursues its commitment to moving images, promoting the encounter between artists, collectors, curators, galleries, and institutions in ways at once solid and daring, passionate and serious, renovating teams and perspectives while remaining consistent with its aims.
Filipa Ramos has been appointed Artistic Director of Loop Festival (12 – 22 November) and Loop Symposium (19 – 20 November).
A curator and writer who has been close to Loop since its beginning, Filipa began her official collaboration with Loop last year, when she curated Images that Move Us Forward, the 2024 edition of Loop Symposium, which brought together such renowned speakers as Sharjah Art Foundation’s Hoor Al-Qasimi, Fondazione Prada’s Paolo Moretti, Eye Filmmuseum’s Julian Ross, artist Gabriel Abrantes, among many others.
Having co-founded the pioneering online artists’ cinema platform Vdrome, Filipa was Curator of the Film Sector of Art Basel, featuring such artists as Raqs Media Collective, Simone Forti, Camille Henrot, Sky Hopinka, Joan Jonas, Kara Walker, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. She was appointed jury in several cinema festivals, such as CPH:Dox, Visions du Réel, and the San Sebastián International Film Festival. Interested in the intersection of artists’ cinema, art, and ecology, Filipa has curated exhibitions and screenings in institutions worldwide. In 2024, she curated Bestiari, featuring artist Carlos Casas, which represented Catalonia at the 60th Venice Biennale. She is Lecturer at the Art Institute of the FHNW Academy of Art and Design, Basel.
The 2025 edition of Loop Festival is conceived under the title Miratges Mirages, a theme that brings together its multiple projects to highlight how moving images create special visions and encounters. Miratges Mirages explores the relationship between cinema, imagination and perception, between bodies, landscapes and art. Miratges Mirages will present a curated selection of films, videos and installations presented in collaboration with the city’s artistic and cultural institutions.
Eva Paià has also been appointed Assistant Curator. Eva will support and work closely with Filipa and the Loop team in running the Festival. Eva holds a Master in Advanced Studies and a BA in Art History, both from the University of Barcelona. She is Artistic Director of Sala d’Art Jove. Since 2020, she has been collaborating with the Educational Department of MACBA, contemplating the institution and proposing alternative ways of engaging and giving voice within the museum. She collaborated with institutions such as MACBA, La Escocesa, or Fabra i Coats, with projects like Idensitat, with galleries such as àngels barcelona, and with festivals like Loop Festival or Art Nou. She has written for A*desk, El Temps de les Arts, and La Maleta de Portbou.
