The Istanbul Biennial has announced a significant change in its leadership. Kevser Güler, a distinguished curator and researcher, has been appointed as the new Director of the Istanbul Biennial. Güler is set to assume her role on January 15, 2024.

About the 18th Istanbul Biennial

The 18th edition of the Istanbul Biennial, under the organization of the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) and sponsored by Koç Holding, is scheduled for September 14 to November 17, 2024. It will be curated by Iwona Blazwick. The Biennial will also host a media preview from September 10 to 13, and a professional preview on September 12 and 13.

Kevser Güler: A Profile

Kevser Güler boasts an impressive background in the art world. She served the Istanbul Biennial from 2007 to 2014 and played a pivotal role in founding the Cappadox Festival Contemporary Art Programme, where she was an Associate Curator from 2015 to 2017. Güler’s journey includes research at Arter’s collection (2014-2019) and a stint as Curator and Exhibitions Director at Yapı Kredi Culture and Arts (2020-2021).

Curatorial Expertise

Güler’s curatorial work is renowned for its depth and diversity. Her projects span exhibitions and programmes in various settings, including museums, galleries, and non-traditional art spaces. Notable recent curatorial projects include ‘Together Fanzine,’ ‘They Were Just Constantly Flying In Circles,’ and ‘Sympathetic System.’

Educational and Editorial Contributions

Born in 1983 in Izmir, Güler holds degrees in Industrial Engineering and Philosophy. She has lectured on exhibition history at Kadir Has University and conducted workshops at Mişar Art. Güler is also a prolific writer and editor, contributing to contemporary art discussions and various exhibition publications.

Advisory and Jury Roles

Güler’s influence extends beyond curating, with active roles in various art programs such as SAHA Studio and Lucy Art Residency. She has also been a key member of the advisory board for the Istanbul Biennial Production and Research Programme.
