La Nueva Fábrica Welcomes Ilaria Conti as New Executive Director and Chief Curator
La Nueva Fábrica is thrilled to announce the appointment of Ilaria Conti as its new Executive Director and Chief Curator.
As a curator focusing on research-based artistic practices and epistemic and social justice, Ilaria has been working extensively with artists in Guatemala and has been a long-time collaborator of La Nueva Fábrica. In her role, Ilaria will advance the institutional and curatorial framework of La Nueva Fábrica to ensure the long-term growth of the organization as a vital resource for local artistic communities and as a key interlocutor for new international collaborations and opportunities.
Ilaria Conti’s curatorial practice is concerned with institutional infrastructures, communal care, curatorial ethics, labor, and civic agency. Previously, she served as Curator at the American Federation of Arts, Research Curator at the Centre Pompidou, Assistant Curator of the 2016 Marrakech Biennale, and Samuel H. Kress Interpretive Fellow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among other positions. Her curatorial work has been featured in projects presented at the Centre Pompidou, Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Georgetown University Art Galleries, Istituto Svizzero, Madre Museum, and Fondation H, among other institutions.
La Nueva Fábrica is a non-profit contemporary art space committed to empowering communities through art. We do so through exhibitions, public programs, educational projects, residencies, and multidisciplinary activities in our space in Antigua, Guatemala, and through international partnerships. Recent exhibitions include Margarita Azurdia: A Universe, Documented, curated by Rossina Cazali (2023-2024); the XXIII Bienal de Arte Paiz (2023); Hellen Ascoli: Cien Terras, curated by Amara Antilla and traveling from the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati (2022-2023); and Regina José Galindo’s first institutional survey in the Americas, Grito, curated by Mara Juracán (2022).
