Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art Welcomes Dr. Danielle Stewart as Curator and Head of Academic Engagement
The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art, located at Utah State University, is proud to welcome Dr. Danielle Stewart as their newly appointed Curator and Head of Academic Engagement. With a wealth of experience as an art history professor and curator, Dr. Stewart’s expertise aligns seamlessly with the museum’s mission to showcase modern and contemporary American art from the Western United States.
Responsibilities
According to Katie Lee-Koven, NEHMA director and chief curator, “Danielle’s unique background as both an art history professor and museum curator makes her an ideal candidate for this role. We are thrilled to have her join our team.” Dr. Stewart will play a pivotal role in curatorial decisions for upcoming exhibitions and ensure that faculty and students across USU’s campus have their needs met.
In addition, Dr. Stewart holds an adjunct assistant professor appointment in the Department of Art and Design. This appointment allows her to serve as a resource for art and art history students, contributing to their academic growth and development.
Career Journey
Dr. Stewart’s career journey is marked by diverse experiences. She was a fellow in the Princeton Mellon Initiative in Architecture, Urbanism, and the Humanities and the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies from 2019 to 2020. From 2020 to 2023, she served as Assistant Professor of Latin American Art at the University of Warwick in the UK. Dr. Stewart has also held curatorial positions at the BYU Museum of Art and the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum in New York City.
Hailing from San Francisco, California, and educated in Utah, Dr. Stewart has also resided in Harlem, New York, as well as Curitiba, Brazil, and Coventry, UK. This diverse range of environments deeply informs her research. She earned her Master of Philosophy and Ph.D. in Art History from the Graduate Center, CUNY, and her BA and MA degrees from Brigham Young University.
Scholarly Writing
Dr. Stewart’s scholarly writing has graced publications supported by esteemed institutions such as the Museu de Arte de São Paulo, the Instituto Moreira Salles, the Fundación Cisneros, the Universidad de los Andes, the College Art Association, the Latin American Studies Association, and The Space Between society.
