The Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania (ICA Philadelphia) has appointed Sara O’Keeffe as its DAJ Director and Curator of Public Engagement and Research. She will join the institution on 28 July.

O’Keeffe brings more than 15 years of experience organising experimental, artist-driven exhibitions and public engagement programmes. She joins ICA from Art Omi, where she has served as Senior Curator since 2022, having previously held curatorial roles at the Philbrook Museum of Art, the New Museum and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

At ICA, O’Keeffe will join the senior leadership team, helping shape the museum’s institutional direction while leading research initiatives, including public programmes, performances, symposia, artist-led projects and publications. She will also strengthen ICA’s partnerships across the University of Pennsylvania and deepen relationships with local and international artists, academics and communities.

Her appointment comes as ICA prepares for its first exhibition season under Daniel W. Dietrich II Director Johanna Burton, which will include a new artist research residency and the relaunch of the museum’s Project Space.
