#announcement #Appointment

The Bronx Museum is delighted to announce that Shamim M. Momin has been appointed as our next Director and Chief Curator. Momin was selected through an intensive nationwide search conducted by the Museum’s Board of Trustees, in partnership with the firm Isaacson, Miller.

“It is an honor to accept the role of Director and Chief Curator at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, an institution that stands apart in its commitment to both excellence and access in the contemporary art world. With its powerful exhibitions, remarkable permanent collection, and pioneering education programs like the AIM Fellowship and Teen Council, I’m humbled to join an organization that not only champions diverse artists but is deeply embedded in the communities it serves. The Bronx Museum’s commitment to amplifying diverse voices and upholding social justice aligns strongly with my own practice and values, and I look forward to leading this singular museum into its next exciting era with the opening of its world-class renovation in 2026.” — Shamim M. Momin

Previously, Momin has served as the Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle, a position she held from 2018-2024. In 2009, Momin co-founded LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division), a non-profit public art organization committed to curating site-specific contemporary art projects in LA and beyond. Prior to her move to the West Coast, Momin served as Associate Curator of the Whitney Museum of American Art for over a decade, where she co-curated both the 2004 and 2008 Whitney Biennials, in addition to serving as Branch Director and Curator of the former Whitney Museum at Altria, where she commissioned more than 50 new projects by emerging artists. Momin will officially begin her role at The Bronx Museum this September.
