The Walker Art Center names Henriette Huldisch as chief curator and director of curatorial affairs
The Walker Art Center recently announced that Henriette Huldisch will be its next Chief Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs. Huldisch is currently Director of Exhibitions and Curator at the MIT List Visual Arts Center in Boston, Massachusetts, where she has worked since 2014.
Walker Executive Director Mary Ceruti stated, “Henriette has an interdisciplinary perspective, deep knowledge and experience working with living artists. She will provide excellent leadership for our curators as we develop creative, experimental programming that both builds on the Walker’s collection and is responsive to our communities.”
At the List Center, Huldischorganized the group exhibitions Before Projection: Video Sculpture 1974-1995 (2018) and An Inventory of Shimmers: Objects of Intimacy in Contemporary Art (2017), as well as many solo exhibitions including Ericka Beckman: Double Reverse (2019); Tala Madani: First Light (2016); Edgar Arceneaux: Written in Smoke and Fire (2016); and Rosa Barba: The Color Out of Time (2015).
Huldisch began her career at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2001, immediately after she graduated from New York University’s film studies program. Originally from Hamburg, Germany, Huldisch came to the United States after receiving a master’s in American studies at Berlin’s Humboldt University. At the Whitney, she co-curated the 2008 Whitney Biennial. From 2010-2014, she worked at Hamburger Bahnhof –Museum for Contemporary Art –Berlin, where she curated major exhibitions of Harun Farocki, Anthony McCall, and others. From 2010-2014, Huldisch also served as Visiting Curator at Cornerhouse, Manchester,and presented projects with Stanya Kahn and Rosa Barba. Among her publications are Before Projection (2018), An Inventory of Shimmers (2017), Ellen Harvey: The Museum of Failure (2015), the 2008 Biennial Exhibition catalogue, and numerous contributions to exhibition catalogues and publications.

I am excited to be part ofthis next chapter for the Walker by building on its history of presenting cutting-edge, timely exhibitions, programs, and publications across the visual arts, moving image, design, and performance.” Huldisch said.
Huldisch will begin at the Walker in January 6, 2020, where she will provide artistic and organizational leadership to the Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Moving Image, and Education and Public Programs departments.
