Objectives
This grant program enhances mutual understanding and knowledge-sharing across East, Southeast, and South Asia. It connects individuals actively addressing common challenges to encourage direct interactions. The aim is to gain fresh insights, survey various situations, and empower future generations by fostering cooperative, innovative alliances.

Target Countries
- East Asia: Japan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, South Korea, Mongolia
- Southeast Asia: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam
- South Asia: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka
Project Requirements
Projects must be transnational, cross-sectoral, and focus on mutual learning and foresight. They should identify and analyze regional issues, develop solutions, and produce shareable outcomes.
Duration and Funding
- One-Year Project: Up to JPY 5,000,000
- Two-Year Project: Up to JPY 10,000,000
- Total Grants Available: 70 million yen
Eligible Applicants
Teams based in the target countries, including practitioners, researchers, creators, policymakers, and media representatives.
Application Period
April 1 to June 1, 2024, 11:59 p.m. Japan Standard Time. Applications must be submitted online.
Selection Process
The Toyota Foundation Board of Directors will select the grant recipients in late September 2024, based on recommendations from an expert committee.

Proposal Submission
Review the Grant Overview, Proposal Guidelines, and other reference materials. Download and submit your proposal and application form online between April 1 and June 1, 2024.
Briefing Sessions
- April 16, 2024: 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. (JST)
- April 25, 2024: 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. (JST)
Attendance at briefing sessions is optional and will be conducted in Japanese.
