Overview:
The Rencontres d’Arles invites curators to apply for the 2025 Curatorial Research Fellowship. This prestigious program offers a €20,000 grant for curators to develop an original image or photography project, with the potential for the project to be included in the Rencontres d’Arles program. The fellowship supports curators in two phases: research (€5,000) and, if selected, production (€15,000). The project must focus on a unique exhibition that explores photography or related visual arts.
Eligibility:
- Open to curators of all nationalities
- Applications can include individual curators, co-curators, or curatorial collectives
- Texts must be in French or English, ideally both
Fellowship Breakdown:
- Research Phase (€5,000):
- Six months of research with budget and timeline approval by Rencontres d’Arles.
- Deliver a proposal to Rencontres d’Arles’ artistic direction after six months.
- Production Phase (€15,000):
- Following approval, curators will receive additional funding for the exhibition’s production, covering expenses like artwork loans, shipping, production, and more.
- Curators are responsible for final artwork selection, exhibition text, and involvement in the exhibition’s opening week.
Application Requirements:
Submit a single PDF (10MB max.) including:
- A biography and list of curatorial projects
- Detailed project proposal (max 5,000 characters)
- Provisional budgets for both research and production phases
- Visual materials supporting the proposal

- January 2025: Announcement of shortlisted projects
- Summer 2025: Research period ends
- September 2025: Production phase begins (if approved)
