Opportunity Overview
Guggenheim Abu Dhabi seeks a Curator for Exhibitions and Collections for its upcoming modern and contemporary art museum in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in WANASA (West Asia, North Africa, South Asia) art.
Skills and Experience Requirements
- At least 8 years of curatorial experience in 20th-century and/or contemporary art.
- Expertise in private collections and the art market.
- Proven international experience and an interest in cultural diplomacy.
- Knowledge of professional museum practices, including exhibition realization, scholarship, and publications.
- Experience in project fundraising, collection development, and exhibition programming.
- Experience working with museum membership groups and managing junior colleagues.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in Arabic, Persian, French, or German preferred.
- Proficiency in database software (The Museum System “TMS” preferred) and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, propose, and develop temporary and touring exhibitions.
- Produce scholarly publications, didactic, website, and educational texts.
- Contribute to the acquisitions process by proposing artworks and writing curatorial reports.
- Coordinate with conservators on the maintenance of commission works.
- Support education, public programs, and community engagement initiatives.
- Represent Guggenheim Abu Dhabi in regional and international art communities.
Education
- M.A. in Art History or equivalent.
- Ph.D. or advanced degree in Art History or related field with a focus on 20th Century and/or contemporary art.
- Knowledge of pre-20th Century and/or non-western cultures, particularly Middle Eastern art, is beneficial.
