NY Residency Program Open Call 2021-2022
Amant Foundation
Amant Foundation is an international private arts organization that fosters artistic experimentation and dialogue across disciplines through residencies and public programming at its two locales: the New York City borough of Brooklyn and the Tuscan village of Chiusure in the heart of Siena province.
In New York, Amant offers an interdisciplinary program of residencies, exhibitions, performance, workshops and film & lecture series that support the work of practitioners across diverse creative fields. Amant is also committed to participating in cultural partnerships with likeminded organizations and institutions in the US and abroad while also being resolutely committed to encouraging local community engagement through programming that explores and expands our understanding of contemporary art and culture.
As a research and artistic platform, Amant arrives on the scene at a moment when the relationship between arts organizations to developments within contemporary art and culture must be constantly revisited—and challenged. In a very real way Amant models itself on traditional artists’ studios where cultural and creative collaboration was historically the norm and where individual artistic self-expression worked in concert with sharing modes of production, experimentation, and decision-making. From our perspective any culture is “collectively” rooted in its historical moment so artistic solidarity and equality are core values at Amant.
Amant NY Residency Program 2021-2022
Overview
The international residency program is the hub of our activities at Amant. It is conceived as a research and artistic platform, experimenting with non- linear models of generating knowledge to encourage different connections between artists, researchers, cultural institutions, and the general public.
Amant provides a stimulating and flexible environment for international practitioners to experiment and make work in NY for a period of three months. Located in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the residency program encourages its residents to take full advantage of access to the city’s numerous cultural institutions, its art professionals and practitioners many of whom are based in Brooklyn.
Timeline
Amant does an open call once a year and the residencies have a duration of three months. The program can accommodate four residents at a time.
Residency period: 3 months in either of the following timeframes:

Applications are accepted from creative practitioners and academics in a variety of disciplines: visual artists, writers, composers, performers, filmmakers, historians and theorists; working at the research stage of a project.
During the period at Amant, artists can develop their work and follow up with their projects on their own terms. We strongly recommend residents to participate in Amant ́s on-going programs and activities, sharing ideas internally and publicly through different formats and methodologies. We highly value openness to cross-disciplinary conversations.
