Andrea Rosen Gallery is seeking an Exhibitions and Operations Director
Andrea Rosen Gallery is seeking an exceptional individual with years of experience at an art gallery or a contemporary art organization to join an extremely focused and idealistic staff to be our Director of Exhibitions and Operations.
It is a particularly exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual with strong leadership skills to manage the organization and implementation of exhibitions at our current main gallery space as well as at our new space, also on 24th Street. The Director of Exhibitions is responsible for executing, in conjunction with a team of art handlers, the physical planning and installing of all internal exhibitions and art fairs, the management of a staff of excellent art handlers and the respectful and conscientious handling of artworks, as well as overseeing the smooth functioning of the physical gallery spaces. The Director of Exhibitions will brainstorm and problem-solve to facilitate installations, especially as the gallery has recently taken on a number of new artists who have a concentration on large-scale, ambitious installations. This person will both have a great level of autonomy as well as work in an active partnership with our Registrar team, Director team and Artist Liaison team.
While this position requires a highly motivated, insightful, physically able individual who can be both a leader and a team player, the gallery also looks forward to the potential opportunity to tailor this position to the particular strengths of the individual candidate. Though the Artist Liaison team primarily works with artists to support the realization of their work, the Director of Exhibitions is an expert reference on materials and methodology and candidate should be comfortable having a direct dialogue with artists. The ability to have a sense of architectural space and to oversee construction is advantageous, as is a vision of how an exhibition should come together and look. An understanding of the importance of the big picture and the small parts that define it should be second nature.
Candidate should be detail-oriented and dedicated, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to prioritize among various ongoing tasks. Candidate should have a deep knowledge of condition reporting and the care of artwork. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for the ability to interface with sensitivity, confidence and expediency. Candidate should have knowledge of contemporary art and the workings of a gallery. Knowledge of Artbase is preferred.
Candidate should be engaged in this position and able to make a long-term commitment.
Salary commensurate with experience.
