The National Gallery is seeking an Archive Assistant to support the Archivist in managing the Gallery’s collections and ensuring accessibility for internal and external researchers. The role involves invigilating visitors, responding to enquiries, assisting with cataloguing, preparing records for transfer, destruction or digitisation, and supporting the decant of the archive for upcoming refurbishment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist staff and external researchers in accessing archive materials
- Respond to enquiries within 10 working days
- Support the Archivist with cataloguing, box-listing, and administrative tasks
- Assist with the preparation and decant of archival collections
- Maintain contact with Gallery staff and external researchers
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Educated to degree level
- Experience in archive or records management
- Knowledge of archive standards and database systems
- Independent research skills and excellent writing skills
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to work independently or in a team
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritise tasks
- Capable of some heavy lifting and working at height
