Khoj Studios is seeking an Archivist & Research Manager to lead the development, organisation, and ongoing management of its institutional and programmatic archives. The role involves working closely with the Khoj team to structure historical material, establish archival systems, and support access for internal use, researchers, artists, and collaborators.
Key Responsibilities
- Survey, organise, catalogue, and preserve Khoj’s physical and digital archival material, including images, videos, texts, publications, correspondence, and programme documentation
- Develop and implement archival standards, metadata systems, and workflows suitable for a contemporary arts organisation
- Oversee digitisation processes and file management, ensuring long-term preservation and accessibility
- Establish clear protocols for storage, access, and usage of archival material
- Maintain consistency and accuracy across archival records and documentation practices
- Support curatorial and communications teams by retrieving and contextualising archival material
- Contribute to institutional writing, timelines, and archival narratives
- Work towards making the archive accessible for internal use and future public-facing initiatives.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- 2–3 years of experience in archiving, research, documentation, or related roles within arts, culture, or academic institutions
- Training or academic background in Archives / Library Science, Art History, Visual Culture, Cultural Studies, or related fields
- Strong organisational and research skills, with attention to detail
- Experience working with both physical and digital archives
- Familiarity with metadata standards, file management systems, and basic digitisation workflows
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a small team
Desired Skills
- Understanding of contemporary art practices and institutional histories
- Experience working with artists’ archives or organisational archives
- Strong writing and contextual research abilities
- Sensitivity to ethical considerations, authorship, and rights management
- Comfort working in a process-driven, evolving environment
