
Art and Museum Educator
The Art and Museum Educator works with the Education team to assist with all aspects of school and public programming. Specific duties include the coordination of: the ArtBar and Kidspace programs; artist residencies; art-making in virtual learning and onsite and offsite programming; special art programs with the Department of Children and Families and the Massachusetts Cultural Council Culture RX initiative; as well as assisting with school programming and scheduling, grant compliance, evaluation, and data. The Art and Museum Educator takes a lead on instructing art making activities, and like all Education staff, also serves as a Gallery Teacher.
The Art and Museum Educator reports to the Director of Education + Curator of Kidspace.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Art Education Curriculum Development: for the ArtBar and Kidspace programs, artist residencies, virtual learning, onsite and offsite programs, and special art programs with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) Culture RX initiative.
- Coordination: Oversee the Ed Dept program schedule (including group and partnership programs, artist residencies, ArtBar, virtual learning, and community programming); schedule gallery teachers, Ed staff, and interns to conduct programs.
- Kidspace Exhibitions and ArtBar: assist Curator of Kidspace with exhibition details; coordinate artist schedules, travel, and housing; organize exhibition promotional information for Marketing and Development departments; maintain cleanliness of gallery and stock supplies; design art interactive components; order supplies; coordinate public programming in Kidspace.
- Managing: Supervise and schedule Kidspace programming staff, supervise Ed. interns.
- Family Programs: Oversee DCF programming including supervised visitation, sibling Saturdays, and eventual afterschool program. Priorities to grow as conditions improve, to include oversight of summer Art Ninjas Camp and other family programming.
- Evaluation: assist with evaluation projects; collation of data; coordinate evaluation needs with teachers and students; maintain evaluation records; and plan evaluation of future programs.
- Documentation: Maintain group and program participant attendance records and align with Box Office system; mailing lists, and press clippings; Kidspace archives; coordinate program documentation and videos.
- Virtual Learning: Assist with the content development of technology platforms for learning including social media, videos channels, educational content on website, Google Classroom, Zoom, and other tools to bring content and museum experience to all learners.
- Grants: assist with grant administration including: oversight of project details and implementation to ensure grant compliance; grant reporting; assist with future planning of grants.
- Budgets: assist with managing a complex annual department budget, as well as specific restricted grant budgets, and oversee weekly invoices and employee time sheets; order supplies; writing contracts for consultants/artists/overhires.
- Gallery Teaching: Serve as the lead art educator for Kidspace public engagement, and as with all Education Department staff, conduct group programs as needed.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in art or museum education and be an art maker; at least 1 year work experience in a museum is preferred. The candidate should be skilled as an effective communicator and have strong writing skills; can work independently, but also as a team player; has an outgoing, positive personality and a knack for connecting with people of many backgrounds. Experience with virtual learning technologies is a plus. This position’s typical schedule is Tuesdays – Saturdays, however, evening, weekend work and interfacing with the public will be required.
