The National Portrait Gallery houses a unique collection of all forms of portraiture of the people who have made or are currently contributing to British history and culture; the collection is the most comprehensive of its kind in the world. With around 2 million visitors each year prior to temporary closure for the Inspiring People project and a strong national and international presence through touring exhibitions and special projects, the Gallery is one of the country’s most important and popular galleries.
Art Handling Technician (x2)
£26,464 per annum
Full-time, 40 hours per week
Fixed term contract for 22 months
The National Portrait Gallery is seeking to appoint two Art Handling Technicians to move and handle works of art at the Gallery as well as undertake minor, non-technical maintenance and housekeeping.
The Art Handling Technicians will be responsible for the safe handling and movement of art and sculptures at the Gallery according to the Gallery’s Health and Safety policies and procedures. You will be involved in preparing works of art for transport, as well as maintaining our art storage areas both on and off-site.
The successful candidates will have previous experience of handling works of art and delicate objects with the ability to work well as part of a team. Experience of working with hand tools, power tools, measuring and calculation is essential for this role. The successful candidates will also be self-motivated, have good attention to detail as well as the ability to stay calm under pressure.
