Huxley-Parlour Gallery is seeking an experienced Art Registrar to join its team on a maternity cover contract. Based across the gallery’s two central London locations, the successful candidate will coordinate the movement, documentation, and logistics of artworks for exhibitions, sales, and international art fairs.
This is an excellent opportunity for a registrar with strong organisational skills and experience in fine art logistics to work within a leading modern and contemporary art gallery. The role requires managing multiple concurrent projects while ensuring artworks are transported, documented, and installed safely and efficiently.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with artists, collectors, galleries, shippers, framers, and customs agents, supporting both the commercial and exhibition programmes through effective collections management and artwork logistics.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate national and international artwork shipments for exhibitions, sales, and art fairs.
- Organise transport for UK-based and international artists.
- Manage inbound and outbound shipping for international art fairs.
- Arrange artwork deliveries to collectors, institutions, and clients.
- Handle artwork imports and exports, ensuring compliance with customs regulations.
- Maintain accurate gallery inventory and artwork records.
- Coordinate framing, mounting, and artwork preparation for exhibitions and sales.
- Prepare consignment agreements and shipping documentation.
- Arrange insurance for artwork transport and storage.
- Safely pack smaller artworks for domestic and international courier shipment.
- Liaise with specialist fine art shippers, couriers, and external logistics providers.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have previous experience as an art registrar or in fine art logistics, with excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage complex shipping schedules in a busy commercial gallery environment.
Applicants should be confident working independently while maintaining close communication with artists, clients, and external service providers.
Requirements
- Previous experience in art registration, collections management, or fine art logistics.
- Strong understanding of artwork transportation and handling procedures.
- Experience managing domestic and international shipments.
- Knowledge of customs procedures, import and export regulations, HS codes, and import tariffs.
- Familiarity with Temporary Admission, Bonded Warehouse procedures, and related customs schemes.
- Experience preparing shipping documentation and consignment agreements.
- Knowledge of shipping insurance procedures.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
