Konsthall C is Seeking an Artistic Director

Konsthall C is seeking a new Artistic Director for a 3-year period, starting in April 2027.

Konsthall C is an art institution, an urban renewal project and a public work of art located in a former communal laundry in the Hökarängen neighborhood of Stockholm. Since 2004, Konsthall C has organized exhibitions and events that challenge currents in contemporary art and correspond to local discourse. Today, Konsthall C is an established global platform for contemporary art.

As a leading actor in contemporary art in Northern Europe, Konsthall C believes it holds a responsibility towards the nexus of crises facing our contemporary society today: from the rise of fascism and environmental disaster to the systemic cuts in cultural funding. In the face of these challenges, Konsthall C is taking steps towards becoming a more equitable, inclusive and value-driven platform.

We are now looking for our next artistic director, a leader that is willing to incorporate Konsthall C’s stated priorities into their vision for the next artistic program (2027–2029). The ideal candidate must be a transformative force in the art world, possessing the vision to move beyond symbolic gestures and use Konsthall C as a site for materializing change.

The ideal candidate would thrive within the fast-paced environment of an experimental project space. They would balance their creative vision with rigorous project management skills, hands-on production experience, and budgeting capacity. The candidate would be willing to contribute to the development of Konsthall C, with a keen interest in institution building. Ideally, they would also possess an understanding of being a host, fostering a generous and inclusive atmosphere that defines the institution’s culture.

Ultimately, while organizational experience is vital, the strength and ingenuity of the artistic proposal will carry significant weight in the selection process.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications:

Experience in working with contemporary art and/or interdisciplinary artistic practices for a stated public.
Experience in exhibition production.
Relevant academic education: Degree in art curation, fine art, or equally qualifying work experience within the arts and culture sector.
Strong skills in writing and speaking in English and/or Swedish.

Merit characteristics:

Strong skills in leadership and management.
Experience in cultural administration, project management and finance.
Having a collaborative spirit.
Ability to build and maintain effective networks.
Offers critical perspectives to the art scene, artistic production, and power relations in the arts.
Effective social and pedagogical skills.
Will and ability to represent Konsthall C in national and international contexts.

The artistic proposal:

The strength and ingenuity of the submitted proposal will be given significant weight during the assessment of the application. Furthermore, the proposal shall be weighed against the applicant’s credentials with an assessment of whether they can execute the proposal.

Proposal for the direction and theme of the artistic program (maximum 500 words).
A description of your current practice and relevant work experience (500 words).
CV

A portfolio of previous projects and work.
