Introduction
The Arts Support Scheme invites artists, cultural practitioners, and communities to initiate projects focused on promoting and realizing cultural rights. This entails ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to access, participate in, and enjoy culture, cultural heritage, and cultural expressions.
Understanding Cultural Rights
Cultural rights encompass the rights of individuals to engage with and appreciate cultural experiences. To gain insights into cultural rights and best practices, you can refer to the “Right to Culture” handbook, a resource published by Arts Council Malta. This handbook is available in print and online, in both Maltese and English, as well as in audiobook format.
Project Objectives
Projects submitted under this call should primarily address specific community needs, such as cultural participation, solidarity, social justice, environmental responsibility, sustainability, community development, and overall well-being.
Aligning with Strategy 2025
The right to culture is a fundamental element of the Arts Council Malta Strategy 2025, encapsulated in the mantra “Care. Create. Flourish.” The Arts Council Malta’s Right to Culture sensitization campaign aims to encourage:
- Engagement through culture and the arts
- Exploration of diverse narratives
- Unleashing creative expression
Eligibility Criteria
Who can apply for this scheme?
- Creative professionals and individual artists
- Entities registered with the Malta Business Registry (including companies, partnerships, foundations, and organizations/associations)
- Groups, collectives, and consortia
- Registered cooperatives
- Voluntary organizations enrolled with the Commissioner for Voluntary Organizations
Please note that maintaining anonymity in specific application sections (Criteria 1 and 2) is mandatory to ensure eligibility.
