Position Summary:
The Columbus Museum of Art (CMA) seeks an experienced curator to lead the development, expansion, and re-interpretation of its photography and lens-based art collection. This role offers an opportunity to create a dynamic program of exhibitions, research, and publications focused on photography. The curator will contribute scholarly expertise, engage with the public, and steward relationships with collectors, artists, and the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement exhibitions and programs in photography, aligning with CMA’s mission and strategic goals.
- Research, recommend, and document acquisitions of significant works for the collection.
- Lead scholarly research and produce publications, including essays, catalogues, and didactic materials.
- Organize and coordinate exhibitions, managing budgets, installation design, and publication creation.
- Actively seek partnerships and venues for touring exhibitions.
- Collaborate on public engagement and educational initiatives, including docent training and tours.
- Represent CMA at conferences, in professional networks, and public forums to enhance the museum’s profile.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree (PhD preferred) in art history or a related field, with a specialization in photography.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of museum experience or equivalent in a related arts organization.
- Demonstrated scholarly achievement, including publications, exhibitions, and public speaking.
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.
- Willingness to travel for exhibitions, courier duties, and conferences, with a valid driver’s license.

Salary: $65,000 – $75,000 annually
