The National Portrait Gallery houses a unique collection of all forms of portraiture of the people who have made or are currently contributing to British history and culture; the collection is the most comprehensive of its kind in the world. With around 2 million visitors each year prior to temporary closure for the Inspiring People project and a strong national and international presence through touring exhibitions and special projects, the Gallery is one of the country’s most important and popular galleries.
Assistant Collections Registrar
£23,000 per annum
Full-time, 35 hours (5 days) per week

Gallery (3 days) and home based (2 days)
The Gallery is seeking a proactive and committed individual to join the team as Assistant Collections Registrar. The post holder will provide administrative and practical support to the Collections Registrar in the day-to-day care and management of works from the Collection and on loan to the Gallery.
The successful applicant will need to have demonstrable experience in the field of collections management, or a related field within the museum or heritage sector. The role is busy and varied so it is important that the post holder has strong organisational and scheduling skills with the ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines, whilst ensuring meticulous attention to detail. The post holder will be handling a range of public enquiries and liaising with internal and external stakeholders; it is therefore vital that they have excellent communication skills and are able to convey information clearly and concisely to specialists and non-specialists across all levels within the Gallery and externally.
