Job Title: Assistant Curator
Working hours: Full-time; 37.5 hours per week (flexible and remote working available, but the ability to come to site on a Monday is essential)

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Assistant Curator supports the care, research, display and interpretation of the Gallery’s collection of designated national importance. The post plays a critical role in achieving the Gallery’s vision: to be an inspirational cultural destination for everybody – unlocking fresh perspectives through the art of the past and present.
The Assistant Curator will be someone with a passion for Old Master paintings, who is invested in bringing new ideas to the field. They will be a team-player who is able to support others, whilst also developing exciting projects of their own. They will thrive in a varied and hands-on environment, where one day might be spent cleaning frames and the next might be researching in the library for a new display, or creating content for our social media channels.
MAIN DUTIES
• To develop and support innovative curatorial projects (including rehangs, displays, exhibitions, publications and digital initiatives) in line with the Gallery’s vision and values
• To support the care, conservation and documentation of the Gallery’s collection
• To undertake research relating to the Gallery’s history, building and collection
• To produce engaging content for the Gallery, including interpretation (in the Gallery and online), articles, blog posts and videos
• To act as an advocate for the Gallery and its collection, both internally and externally
• This list is not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to take on other duties as reasonably required by the Curator.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
You will have:
• An imaginative, creative and collaborative approach to the display of historic paintings
• A degree in art history, or comparable experience, with specialist knowledge in an area relating to the Gallery collection
• Strong research skills, combined with the ability to share scholarly research with a broad public
• Knowledge of collections care/management, and a willingness to undertake routine
practical tasks to ensure the preservation of the Gallery collection
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• A team-player, who also has the skill and initiative to develop and lead their own projects
• A commitment to promoting diversity, inclusivity and accessibility within the context of a historic collection

Pension:
