Position Overview:
The Assistant Curator is a key part of the Exhibitions and Programs Team and is responsible for supporting the development and delivery of an integrated program of exhibitions, public programs, live events, and work developed in partnership with communities and organizations. They support the curators and educators to develop exhibitions and the QM Studio Artists program.
Essential Functions:
- Works closely to support the Curator of Exhibitions and Director of Curatorial Affairs and Programs to organize exhibitions, programs and collection displays;
- Supports the delivery of touring exhibitions and those devised by external curators;
- Support artists’ residencies and fellowships
- Ensures that material for interpretation, marketing, and publications is written, edited, and produced on time, including didactic panels and labels;
- Provide detailed planning for exhibitions including checklists and ensure all loans forms are completed in good time;
- Manages budgets and payments
- Provide administrative support to the Production Manager and Curator, including ensuring registration, shipping, and condition checking is completed and filed;
- Oversee and attend the process and logistics of programs from planning to realization by cooperating with other department staff members including Security, Facilities, and
- Communications and Development;
- Share departmental administrative tasks with Assistant Curator, Exhibitions and Live Events;
- Attend weekly staff meetings and event meetings;
- Supervise curatorial fellows and interns.
Management responsibilities:
- Mentor and supervise department staff, fellows, and interns; work with QM leadership to identify professional development opportunities
- Model exemplary workplace behavior in alignment with the QM mission and values; take proactive steps to enhance an organizational culture of learning, inclusion, and cross-departmental collaboration
- Contribute to the QM’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (‘IDEA’) initiatives
Manage performance for department staff, deliver constructive feedback in an appropriate and fair manner; collect staff input and feedback - Strategize and determine departmental goals, set timelines, and track progress in the employee database (ADP WorkforceNow)
- Maintain department budget, forecast budgeting inputs for each fiscal year
- Work closely with HR to ensure all department staff have knowledge of QM policies and procedures
- Review and approve employee timesheets for biweekly payroll processing via ADP WorkforceNow
- Actively Participate in Management meetings and encourage dialogue, support colleagues by attending museum programmatic events

Qualifications
- Knowledge of international contemporary art and public practice;
- Excellent research, writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

Requirements
- Bachelors Degree and/or its work experience equivalent
- 2 years experience working in the field of contemporary art;
- Availability and mobility to work remotely, as off-site meetings will occur frequently, many of them on evenings and weekends
