Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona
Posting Number: req11772
Department: Ctr for Creative Photography
Location: Main Campus
Address: Tucson, AZ USA
Position Highlights
The Assistant Curator will be part of a multi-member curatorial team at the Center for Creative Photography (Center). Exhibition creation will include, but is not limited to, two 2,500-square-foot exhibitions in the Doris and John Norton Gallery for the Center for Creative Photography at Phoenix Art Museum (Museum) per year. There will be opportunities for collaboration with University of Arizona colleagues, at the School of Art and beyond, as well as interactions with the Tucson- and Phoenix-area communities, and the larger photographic field. Membership in the Center’s curatorial team will offer opportunities to participate in the acquisitions process, in the traveling exhibitions program, in public programs both in Phoenix and in Tucson, in curatorial-related travel, and in supporting the growth of the Center. John Norton (1929-2016) and his wife Doris endowed the gallery space at Phoenix Art Museum and the curatorial position at the Center in 2006 when Phoenix Art Museum underwent a major expansion, including the Katz Modern and Contemporary wing, in which the Norton Gallery is situated. Mr. Norton was an amateur photographer, a long-time donor to Phoenix Art Museum, and a proud University of Arizona alumnus whose investment in the collaborative relationship between the Center and Phoenix Art Museum has provided for over 35 photographic exhibitions in the partnership’s 16 years.
