About the Opportunity
Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Project, a leading modern and contemporary art museum in Abu Dhabi, UAE, is seeking an Assistant Curator to join its dynamic team. Skill and Experience Requirements
To excel in this role, you should possess the following:
- A background in modern and contemporary art with a demonstrated interest in global art history.
- Previous experience working in a museum curatorial department, with a focus on curatorial research.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in a language from West Asia or South Asia, along with proficiency in one European language (desired).
- Knowledge of computer databases and MS Office software.
Key Responsibilities
As an Assistant Curator at Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Project, your responsibilities will include:
Curatorial Research and Development
- Assist in researching, developing, and delivering acquisitions, exhibitions, publications, and commissioning programs.
- Conduct research for exhibitions, commissions, acquisitions, and publications.
- Maintain a research database for various curatorial activities.
- Manage curatorial object and artist files, including exhibition records and correspondence.
- Maintain curatorial data in collections management systems.
- Collaborate with the Curatorial team in acquisition proposals and meetings, including writing scholarly curatorial reports.
- Oversee the editorial process and production of Curatorial Reports.
Exhibitions and Projects
- Support all aspects of exhibitions development, including loan requests and negotiations.
- Liaise with exhibition management, technical, and installation teams.
- Collaborate with Project Management and exhibition management teams for budget preparation and management.
- Coordinate with Education teams for public programs and interpretation materials.
- Assist in catalogue production and online content preparation.
- Work with Publications department on image and text assembly, reproduction, and copyright permissions.
- Write and confirm label copy for various materials.
- Conduct general fact-checking for the Development and Media and Public Relations Department.
- Supervise Guggenheim Abu Dhabi project interns.
Education
- M.A. in Art History or equivalent (with at least 3 years of prior museum work experience).
- Ph.D. or advanced graduate studies in global art history and critical theory (preferred).
