ASSISTANT CURATOR

Job Overview

JOAN, a nonprofit art organization, is eager to welcome a new Assistant Curator to the team. This part-time role, starting in May or June 2024, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the curatorial program and support various organizational aspects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to define the curatorial program.
  • Lead the research, development, and installation of exhibitions and programs.
  • Curate public programming aligned with annual themes.
  • Foster close relationships with artists for project development.
  • Network with artists, curators, writers, and freelancers to enhance partnerships.
  • Prepare press releases, agreements, and other exhibition materials.
  • Administer the membership plan and related initiatives.
  • Facilitate the organization’s annual fundraiser and donor activities.
  • Assist with grant writing and reporting.
  • Manage daily gallery operations, enhancing visitor experiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in art history, curatorial studies, or related fields, with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • A strong passion for contemporary art and nonprofit operations.
  • Proficient research skills and experience in project coordination.
  • Excellent communication skills for diverse interactions.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Creative and interdisciplinary working style.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, and Acrobat.
  • Additional language skills are advantageous.

Position Details

  • Part-time (20 hours/week) for 1 year, with potential extension.
  • Must be available Thursday-Saturday, 12-6pm, and flexible for irregular hours.
  • Compensation: $27/hour.
