Kunstverein in Hamburg seeks an Assistant Curator to join its team full-time. Founded in 1817, the institution is dedicated to presenting and mediating contemporary artistic positions, serving as a platform for critical engagement with new perspectives on society.
The Assistant Curator will support the realisation of exhibitions and public programmes, working closely with the Director and other team members. The role encompasses curatorial research, artist liaison, exhibition logistics, and project coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Realisation of exhibitions and projects in coordination with the Director
- Supervision of installation and deinstallation processes
- Drafting and reviewing contracts (loans, exhibitions)
- Managing transport, customs, insurance, and claims
- Liaising with artists, funders, members, and community partners
- Research and text writing for exhibitions
- Budgeting and timeline/project management
- Preparing funding applications
- Developing the annual members’ programme
- Planning public events and programme activities
- Editorial support for publications
- Leading regular exhibition tours
- Organising the annual edition exhibition
Candidate Profile
- Relevant academic and/or professional background in curating or contemporary art
- Excellent written and spoken German or English skills
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Experience working with artists, institutions, and funders is desirable
- Enthusiasm for collaborative work in a small, dynamic team
