Asia Art Archive (AAA), Hong Kong’s pioneering independent non-profit organisation, seeks a full-time Assistant Curator who will work closely with the Head of Research & Archives to activate and interpret the AAA Collections through dynamic programming and strategic partnerships. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic organisation at the centre of the regional contemporary art scene.
Since its founding in 2000, AAA has been at the forefront of documenting and redefining the recent histories of contemporary art in Asia. Through dynamic residencies, cutting-edge research, innovative educational programmes, thought-provoking publications, and transformative institutional collaborations, AAA has become the go-to site for art professionals, scholars, educators, artists, and more. With the most extensive and growing collection of materials on contemporary art from Asia, freely accessible online and in its onsite library, AAA serves as an invaluable resource for inspiration and knowledge.
Responsibilities include
- Working closely with the Research & Archives and Curatorial teams to conceptualize, plan, and realize AAA’s exhibitions and public programmes
- Managing loans, artwork shipping, condition reports, and budgets
- Performing multiple administrative tasks to support project management, including preparing proposals, budgets, timelines, and reports
- Conducting thematic and contextual research to support the development, presentation, and interpretation of AAA Collections
- Initiating and collaborating with artists to envision and realise projects that reflect AAA’s mission and research focus
- Supporting the AAA team to establish partnerships with regional and international art centres, archives, and libraries
- Liaising and cultivating good relationships with artists, artist-run spaces, and cultural institutions
The Ideal Candidate
- Minimum of four years of curatorial experience in independent art spaces, biennials, art centres, or museums
- Proven collaborative working methods and strong team orientation
- Degree in art history, curatorial studies, history, literature, or a related field
- Excellent project management and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written, oral, and public communication skills in English; proficiency in Cantonese or an additional Asian language is preferred
