The NUS Museum houses over 8,000 artworks from Singapore, the region, India, and China, including the Lee Kong Chian Collection of Chinese Art, the Ng Eng Teng Collection, and the Straits Chinese Collection. The museum provides a key resource for research, teaching, and public engagement, highlighting post-colonial political contexts and cultural development in Singapore and the region.
Role Overview
The Assistant / Curator (Singapore Studies and Art History) will work closely with the Curatorial Lead to develop research and curatorial projects connecting the museum’s Singapore-focused collections with other holdings. The role involves collections development, systematic cataloguing, acquisitions, archival research, and creating academic and public access through exhibitions, publications, and programs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conceptualise and mount exhibitions across museum collections
- Engage with campus, student communities, and the public via tours, talks, workshops, and volunteer events
- Develop workshops and training programmes related to Singapore Studies with the Engagement team
- Participate in acquisition and valuation of Singapore-related materials and public sculptures
- Produce research and archival materials, exhibition catalogues, publications, and website content
- Develop public programs such as talks, workshops, and events with the outreach team
- Undertake administrative duties including committee and secretarial functions as assigned
Qualifications
- BA or MA in Art History, History, Cultural Studies, Global Studies, Arts Management, or equivalent
- 3–5 years of relevant experience, with a focus on Singapore art and cultural history
- Prior experience as researcher/archiver is an advantage
- Strong research, writing, organisational, and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent written and spoken English; comfortable with public speaking
- Detail-oriented, independent, and able to work in a team
- Availability for evenings and weekends for events
