A successful candidate is responsible for planning, executing and implementing public programs as an integral part of exhibitions in order to promote an expansive curatorial vision and a dynamic museum visitor experience. Primary duties include providing active assistance to Director of Exhibitions and Curator and working in close partnership with Assistant Curator. Duties also include working closely with other departments including Public Programs and Events/Community Engagement and Education Departments as well as outside agencies.

Specific Responsibilities and Duties:

Work closely with curators in organizing exhibitions including development of initial concepts and/or exhibition concepts proposed by outside curators to develop the effective programming to enhance the exhibition. Research, develop, and implement public programs for exhibitions and participate in negotiating and decision-making processes in cooperation with participating artists and curators as well as other departments including Public Events and Community Engagement, Education, and Public Relations. Facilitate partnerships with outside specialists in the fields, institutions and organizations for extended programs in collaboration and in off-site. Develop interpretive materials for programs. Consult Registrar and Exhibition Production Manager for certain aspects of logistics. Oversee and attend the entire process and logistics of programs from planning to realization by cooperating with other department staff members including Security, Facilities, and Public Relations. Share departmental administrative tasks with Assistant Curator. Attend weekly event meetings. Supervise curatorial fellows and interns.

Qualifications:

Minimum B.A., M.A. in Art History, Curatorial or Museum Studies or related discipline. Minimum 2 – 3 years curatorial experience in the field of contemporary art. Clear understanding of current and emerging trends and progressive visions for curatorial and museum practices. Ability to think and act in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative way. Foreign language (s) proficiency desirable. Excellent interpersonal skills; writing, presentation and public speaking skills. Team player. Comfortable driving.
