About the Role
The Assistant Curator supports Hayy Jameel’s exhibition programme, commissions, and public programmes. The role involves working closely with the Exhibitions team and curators to realise exhibitions and public programming from research and development through to production.
Responsibilities include exhibition research and planning, coordination of programmes and events, stakeholder management, publication workflows, writing and editing exhibition-related content, and administrative support.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Curatorial
- Conduct research on artists, artworks, and relevant topics; compile bibliographies and source images and documents
- Collaborate with the Art Jameel Learning team across books, articles, databases, and archives
- Support exhibition planning, including checklists, loans research, and liaising with artists and lenders
- Assist in planning and coordinating public programmes such as talks, panels, and workshops
- Draft and edit exhibition texts including descriptions, labels, and website/newsletter content
- Contribute to publications, including bibliographies, captions, and image sourcing
- Prepare agreements and loan requests for exhibitions
- Draft and send speaker letters and contracts
- Maintain accurate artwork records, image files, and lender details
- Produce condition reports for artworks
- Liaise across departments to support programme delivery
- Support communication with artists, lenders, and galleries
- Assist during exhibition installation
- Document production and installation processes where required
- Deliver exhibition tours to external guests and partners
- Coordinate with AV technicians for events
Administration
- Support departmental administration including invoicing, documentation, meeting minutes, and scheduling
- Develop and maintain planning documents and trackers
- Coordinate travel, transport, and accommodation for artists and guests
- Support logistics for visiting artists, including honoraria and visa coordination
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field
- Master’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience in a museum, gallery, or cultural organisation
- Strong research and writing skills
- Fluency in English and Arabic
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
