The Assistant Curator, Cinema supports the ICA Cinema programme, a core strand of the organisation’s artistic activity focused on film culture, discovery, debate and moving image practice. This is a delivery-focused role with strong curatorial development potential.
The role supports the Curator, Cinema in the planning, coordination and delivery of screenings, partnership programmes, guest-curated events and ICA-led initiatives, including Off-Circuit and Long Takes.
About the Role
The Assistant Curator, Cinema plays a key role in the day-to-day delivery of ICA Cinema’s programme, ensuring screenings and events run smoothly across internal teams and external partners.
The post-holder will gradually develop responsibility in areas including curatorial authorship, stakeholder management, rights negotiation, commissioning and editing texts, and programme development.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support delivery of ICA Cinema programmes, including scheduling, coordination, guest liaison and on-the-ground delivery
- Coordinate partnership-led and guest-curated projects
- Maintain relationships with filmmakers, curators and external partners
- Coordinate screening logistics between Front of House, Projection and external stakeholders
- Manage weekly operational processes including scheduling and holdovers
- Maintain accurate film listings on the website and ensure timely updates
- Coordinate cinema on-sales via Spektrix and related systems
- Support communications workflows, including drafting and editing copy
- Coordinate promotional materials (trailers, slides, social assets)
- Support reporting on attendance, ticketing and programme performance
- Process invoices and manage distributor box office returns
- Maintain accurate records of fees, guarantees and settlements
- Support ICA Cinema Distribution activity, including bookings, materials and reporting
About You
Essential:
- Experience in film programming, cinema coordination or festival contexts
- Strong knowledge of film and moving image culture, especially non-fiction and marginal histories
- Experience managing complex workflows across multiple stakeholders
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to draft and edit written content
- Strong organisational and IT skills (Microsoft Office)
- Ability to work evenings and weekends when required
- Ability to work independently with sound judgement
Desirable:
- Familiarity with institutional arts environments
- Awareness of ICA’s wider programme
- Experience with systems such as Spektrix and Artifax (or equivalents)
