The Boca Raton Museum of Art is seeking an Assistant Curator to join its Curatorial Department. The role supports the museum’s exhibition programme and collection development through research, project coordination, and cross-departmental collaboration. The position offers opportunities to contribute to exhibitions, collection growth, programming, outreach, and institutional initiatives.
Working closely with the Chief Curator and other departments, the Assistant Curator will help develop exhibitions, interpret collections, and create accessible content for diverse audiences. The role combines curatorial research, project management, and public engagement within a multidisciplinary museum environment.
The Assistant Curator supports the full curatorial workflow, including exhibition coordination, research, collection management, interpretation, and public programming. The role includes opportunities to curate exhibitions under supervision, contribute to collection development, and collaborate with education, marketing, and advancement teams.
In addition to curatorial responsibilities, the position involves writing labels and collection texts, participating in outreach initiatives, supporting digital content production, and contributing to fundraising and grant-writing activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the coordination and delivery of exhibitions, including logistics and project management
- Assist with research for internally and externally organised exhibitions
- Curate original exhibitions and installations under supervision
- Develop content for digital platforms, including Bloomberg Connects
- Collaborate on exhibition-related programming for diverse audiences
- Provide training and support for docent and public programmes
- Participate in collection installations such as “First Encounters”
- Write object descriptions, labels, and collection database entries
- Support collection management and acquisition research
- Contribute to fundraising activities, including grant applications
- Develop outreach and social media content related to exhibitions and collections
Requirements
- Advanced degree in art history, museum studies, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an art institution
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills
- Excellent organisational and project management abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Experience with collections management systems (preferred)
- Familiarity with digital tools and social media for public engagement (preferred)
