We are seeking to appoint two assistant curators – one focusing on art history and the other on maritime history. You should have a history or art history degree and some experience of, or demonstrable interest in, working with collections. You need to be able to bring subjects and objects to life, making them relevant and accessible to a wide range of audiences. This opportunity will allow you to launch your curatorial career at Royal Museum Greenwich, one of the UK’s top ten visitor attractions.
We already welcome around 2.4 million people a year to RMG, home of the National Maritime Museum, Queen’s House, Royal Observatory Greenwich and the Cutty Sark, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We are currently in the middle of the Endeavour Project; an ambitious and exciting masterplan that will transform our public spaces and displays, our aim is to deliver an exceptional visitor experience. Looking at our collections in new and innovative ways, we want to inspire everyone who walks through our doors with amazing stories of the sea, space exploration and Britain’s role in world history.
Key elements of your role will include engaging visitors, answering public enquiries, undertaking research and cataloguing the collections. This will require you to work flexibly and proactively in collaboration with teams across the Museum. Your role will develop as your knowledge of the collections deepens and you engage more widely with our audiences.
