Assistant Curator, International Art

- Permanent full-time position
- $55,283 – $70,128 per annum
Priority assessment (on a suitability basis) will be given to Queensland Government employees requiring placement.
The purpose of the position of Assistant Curator, International Art is:
- To assist in the development and implementation of major exhibition projects relating to International Art;
- To extend access to and interpretation of International Art exhibitions and collections through lectures, publications, touring exhibitions and other related means;
- To assist the Curatorial Manager, International Art in the development, research, documentation, display and interpretation of the Gallery’s international collection;
- To contribute to inter-department curatorial teams on major projects as required.
KEY DUTIES
- Provide effective intellectual and curatorial expertise to the department and participate in the support and development of acquisition and exhibition strategies to provide maximum access to International art exhibitions, programs and collections.
- Provide advice and assistance to the Curatorial Manager, International Art, in the development and implementation of the department’s programs and resources for major international exhibitions, including temporary exhibitions.
- Assist the Curatorial Manager, International Art, to initiate, research, plan and co-ordinate the presentation of collection and non-collection based programs and temporary exhibitions, along with regular lectures and seminars.
- To undertake assessment and cataloguing of the International Art Collection, monitor display, valuation, conservation and restoration activities; supervise and maintain the accuracy and integrity of administrative and other records relevant to the development and management of the International Art collection.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of a network of professional contacts, including academics, curators, art dealers and existing and potential donors, both internationally and in Australia; this includes responding, as appropriate, to inquiries from curators, artists, academics, researchers and the general public.
- Assist in the research and development of publications, exhibition catalogues, articles and interpretive materials, with special emphasis on publications for major international temporary exhibitions.
- Undertake the preparation of acquisition proposals for works entering the International Art collection, as required.
- Assist the Curatorial Manager, International Art, with the preparation of research papers, acquisition reports, assessments and reports for Trustees.
- Participate, when required, as a member of multi-disciplinary project teams for specific projects.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in the Department’s systems, policies and procedures.
