Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art – MIMA – connects art, people and ideas. MIMA is an international art gallery and museum. We commission, collect and re-think modern and contemporary art. We make creative, civic space. MIMA works closely with local and global partners to put art into action. We build public participation. A cultural and community hub, ethics of equity, diversity and inclusion drive our work. Part of Teesside University, MIMA is powered by a vision to positively contribute to society.
The MIMA School of Art & Design leads Teesside University’s well-established Fine Art and Design provision. The MIMA School model is nationally unique and provides a rich research environment comprising the museum and gallery, studios and workshops. The MIMA School of Art & Design supports new generations of artists to successfully begin their creative working lives.
We have an exciting opportunity for an individual who has previously worked in museums and galleries to work together with our Head of Programme in forming and delivering MIMA’s public facing programme. You will plan and work on organising exhibitions, collection displays, community initiatives and events and assist with the marketing and interpretation. You will contribute to MIMA School of Art & Design research and teaching, supporting students to have a rich and creative experience through engaging with the museum and gallery.
A passion for widening public access to the visual arts and to strengthening links to the community is essential, as is hands on experience of delivering artistic programmes within visual arts plus a commitment to equity and inclusion. You must have strong communication and planning skills plus the ability to prioritise workload for yourself and others. Applicants must be educated to degree level in an arts related discipline.
